EAGLEY guaranteed their Premier Division status by beating fourth placed Longridge Town 2-1, writes Joshua Rogers..

Manager Simon Whaley said: “I’m over the moon, when I took over as manager I promised to keep them up, so to actually do it is a big relief.”

The Dunscar-based side took the lead against Longridge after just eight minutes when Heath Ainscow slotted home inside the box after a fine counter attack.

The striker then added his second just after the hour mark from unselfish play by Andrew Lindley.

Longridge grabbed a consolation goal at the death through Jordan Bowen but it was too little too late.

In Division Two, Ladybridge lost their title decider against Haslingden St Marys 4-1.

Ladybridge never recovered from a slow start, going 2-0 down from two set pieces inside the first 15 minutes.

The third goal came in controversial circumstances when Haslingden scored after Ladybridge stopped when a free kick was taken, and although Ladybridge pulled one back through Matt Woods, the home side put the game to bed in the 80th minute with an excellent 25 yard strike from Darrell Holland.

Also in Division Two, CMB managed to beat Leyland United 3-2 in a closely-contested game.

The Chew Moor outfit took the lead through a Jim Winteringham header on 26 minutes, before a Liam Fielding free kick equalised for Leyland five minutes before half time.

But a Chris Tonge effort was then turned in to give CMB a 2-1 half-time lead.

After the restart Nathan Coyne capitalised on great work down the left to coolly finish into the net.

Dave McCartney gave the home side hope after scoring with half an hour to go but it wasn’t enough.

Elsewhere, in Division One, Tempest United were at their goal-scoring best defeating Wyre Villa 6-0.

Goals from Liam Stewart (two), Danny Ashcroft, Pete Lancaster, Gary Gemmell and Nicholas Skelly wrapped up the win.
