WANDERERS are preparing to search for a new goalkeeping coach after Lee Turner agreed to join Championship rivals Charlton Athletic.

It is understood the 50-year-old, who followed Dougie Freedman from Crystal Palace in December 2012, will leave the Macron Stadium in the next few days.

Turner travelled with the Whites to Austria, working with Ben Amos and Ross Fitzsimons but is seeking a return to his native South London.

That leaves Neil Lennon looking to make a swift appointment with the season just over three weeks away, and the early indication is that Wanderers could look to appoint from within.

Former goalkeeping coach Fred Barber, who is currently working part-time at Crewe, may be a popular choice with supporters, as would his former protege Jussi Jaaskelainen, who was released by West Ham at the end of last season.

There are doubts, however, whether the Big Finn would want to move into coaching at this stage as he looks for a short-term deal to extend his playing days, or whether he has the requisite coaching badges.

Should the club look to appoint from within, then one option could be another famous name of the club’s goalkeeping past in Keith Branagan, who has been working within the academy.

Ex-Liverpool keeper Tony Warner has also been involved in the coaching set-up but has now accepted a job in the Indian Super League with North East United.

Turner is poised to make a quick return to Wanderers, with Charlton set to feature in the final friendly of the summer on July 31.

The former Southend United keeper has spent three years at Bolton, working with the likes of Adam Bogdan and Andy Lonergan.

Meanwhile, Wanderers have offered Medo Kamara to his former club Partizan Belgrade.

The Sierra Leone international spent the second half of last season on loan at Maccabi Haifa, and the Israeli club have already passed on the chance to sign him.

The Whites have offered the 27-year-old out to several European clubs without success, although Partizan are weighing up their options.

Lennon is planning to move on a handful of players in order to make some signings of his own, hinting that midfield could be where he looks to trim his squad.

“I’m not going to say we’ll bring in a plethora of players but there’s no question there are positions which need strengthening,” he told The Bolton News.

“We’re over-loaded in central midfield and there are other areas we need to look at where we’re light.”
