WHILE things have not run smoothly for the first team of late, Wanderers’ development squad maintained their unbeaten start to pre-season with a 2-1 win against Colwyn Bay.
Former Everton striker George Newell – son of ex-Blackburn Rovers man Mike – opened the scoring on 38 minutes after Bay keeper Chris Sanna had saved from Jon Celebrio.
Sam Barnes levelled the scores with a header after the break following a far-post corner but Wanderers got themselves back into the lead when Callum Spooner’s deep cross dipped in underneath the crossbar with 17 minutes to go.
Jamie Thomas went close to making it three just before the end when his shot was deflected just wide.
Wanderers XI: Fitzsimons (Campbell 46), Maher (Spooner 46), Holding (Garratt 46), Taylor, Finney, Lussey (Perry 46), Campbell-Young, Kellett (Cvetko 46), Newell, Ceberio (Woolery 46), Thomas.
