ADAM Le Fondre will be leaving Cardiff City and heading north this week - but won’t be signing for Wanderers.

Bluebirds boss Russell Slade has confirmed that the striker will sign for a club “more geographically suited” to his family’s home in the North West – but The Bolton News understands that Bolton are not in the running.

Sources close to the player suggest Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday are the two options currently on the table for the 28-year-old, who scored eight times for Wanderers in a successful loan spell last season.

Bolton fans have clamoured for him to return, even raising funds online to in an attempt to kickstart the deal, but Cardiff remain determined to sell outright, even if they loan Le Fondre out for the season with a view to buy.

That presently puts him out of Wanderers’ price range, much to the frustration of Neil Lennon, who admitted last week he would like to work with the former Reading front man again.

Slade told Wales Online: “There is likely to be movement next week and there is a chance it is a club up north showing strong interest.

“From the player's point of view he is desperate to sign for the right club in the right geographical area.”
