LUCKY charm Stephen Dobbie hopes his own good fortune will rub off on his Wanderers team-mates in tomorrow night’s derby.

After chopping down Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the Scottish striker is likely to start on the bench at Blackburn Rovers.

But Dobbie hopes by ending the club’s 10-hour goal famine at the weekend, he has reduced the pressure going into the televised game at Ewood Park.

“It went in for me in the end, so hopefully that’ll help the boys kick on,” he told The Bolton News. “It’s a big game and it’s extra special because it’s on TV as well. I think if we play like we have at home, we can get a result.

“The gaffer knows we’re playing well, and we know we’re playing well – but it doesn’t reflect that to the fans when you’re bottom of the league.

“We’ve hit the bar three times in a game, lost out to a worldie, missed loads of chances in the MK Dons game.

"We’ve done all the shooting drills and the hard work on the training pitch, so it isn’t that.

“Little things have gone against us. But I firmly believe if we keep things going we’ll get results, like we did against Forest in the end.”

Dobbie has also backed Zach Clough to get among the goals soon, having seen the youngster struggle to find his top form in recent weeks.

“Watching him in training is great – he reminds me a bit of myself when I was younger, with his dribbling skills,” he said.

“The goals will definitely come for Zach because he’s too good a player for them not to come.

"He just needs to keep doing what he’s doing and he’ll be fine.”

Dobbie has himself been restricted to cameos from the bench so far this season. But the 32-year-old is wise enough to know his chance will come – even if it means another late salvo at Ewood Park.

“It’s a long season and there will be times when there are injuries or suspensions, and times when the team isn’t going so well and you’ll get the chance,” he said.

“I’m old enough to know the chance will come eventually. You just need to keep working hard and making sure you’re ready.

“If that comes from the bench like it did against Forest then fine, I’ll be ready. But it’s always nice when you come on and score a goal.”
