BURY GSOB completed their second scalp of Bolton sides in as many weeks when they triumphed against Premier Division pace-setters Little Lever on Saturday.

The Bury side had knocked Old Boltonians out of the First XI Cup last week on penalties and they pulled off another upset by beating the Mytham Road side 4-1.

It was Little Lever's first defeat of the season and manager Lee Buckley is calling on his players to get back to winning ways.

He said: "We now have three home games, with the first against Howe Bridge on Saturday.

"It is still early days and there will be other teams around us losing matches and points between now and the end of the season.

"We need to kick on and we have three home matches in row and there is no reason why we cannot get nine points from them."

Things started brightly for Little Lever and could have been ahead.

He said: "We were the best team for the first half hour and created a few chances.

"But they got a free-kick on the half-way line and a shot deflected off our goalkeeper and they scored.

"They added another and that meant we were 2-0 down at the break."

The team-talk at the interval paid off as Buckley's side came out rejuvenated.

He said: "We managed to pull one goal back after a great solo effort by Scott Bingham from outside the box.

"Then we had another effort tipped over the bar by the goalkeeper from a corner."

However, hopes of a revival were short-lived as the visitors got a second wind.

"That was it for us. They got two more goals and wrapped up the win.

"Bury were the better team, were well-organised and deserved to get the win.

"It did not help we had a bye in the cup last week.

"I thought our back four of Steve Yates, Phil Deegan, Lee Valentine and Jordan Haymer were absolutely superb.

"They worked well together and it was a shame things did not come off going forward."

Little Lever relinquished top spot to their local rivals Old Boltonians as Steve Eccleshare's team romped to a 10-3 win against North Walkden.

The scoreline did not make for pretty reading after 25 minutes as the Chapeltown side were 3-0 down.

But the scoreline only spurred on the wounded Old Bolts side as they hit back to level the scores before the break.

Then after the interval they added seven more to their tally to take top spot.

Sean Rushton and Matt McLellan both bagged hat-tricks while Lee Worswick (two), Rob Taylor (one) and David Owen (one) helped wrapped up the win.

Manager Steve Eccleshare said: "We turned things around and it has been coming for a couple of weeks.

"We always create chances to score and will continue to do that.

"With Little Lever it was an even better results but we are going to be taking it a game at time.

"It is one of our best results since I have been in charge and the lads are buzzing after the win."

Elsewhere, Horwich St Mary's Victoria went out of the Lancashire Cup going down 2-1 to Rosegrove Railway in a replay.

Rosegrove went 1-0 up in the first half but had to wait until the hour mark to double their tally.

Dean Spencer reduced the arrears with 25 minutes to go and Horwich threw the kitchen sink at Rosegrove Railway including hitting the post with another effort by Spencer in the last-minute.

The original match was abandoned after 65 minutes with Danny Holmes side 5-1 up and they were down to 10-men after one player saw red and the management team decided they didn't wanted to finish the game.

Earlier in the match, a Rosegrove Railway player was injured and after waiting 30 minutes for an ambulance.
