CMB are opening a gap at the top of the West Lancashire League Division Two after a resounding 4-0 win against Furness Cavaliers.

Phil Roberts' side were in control from start to finish as Andy Warburton went close with a free-kick but they took the lead thanks to a neat finish from Neil Holmes to make it 1-0 at the break.

The Chew Moor side's dominance continued after the interval with Scott McNair extending their advantage in the 46th minute.

Paul Hallows continued his great form in front of goal by bagging two goals.

They could have extended their tally but missed a penalty and Will Archer hit the bar from an overhead kick.

Roberts said: "We played well again, some of the football played from the back and through into midfield was breathtaking at times.

"My only gripe is we need to start punishing teams earlier, we asked the lads to start strong the second half and we went straight at them and scored almost immediately.

"It's simple, if we keep clean sheets we'll win games because we're always going to score goals. The work rate of our front men Danny Warburton and Paul (Hallows) was fantastic."

Elsewhere, in the same division, Bolton County sprung an upset defeating Croston Sports 3-0.

Alex Todd, Tom Axon-Smith and Alex Jelenje were on target for Mark Ormrod's side as they moved up to fifth in the league.

One point behind them are local rivals Stoneclough after their 4-0 victory against Millom.

Linford Stewart was at the double while Jason Perry and Sam Brooks also got on the score-sheet.

Meanwhile, it is all hotting-up in Division One, with Ross McNair's Tempest United side flying the flag for Bolton in the promotion race with rivals Turton not far behind.

Striker Matt Carter scored a goal in each half and more goals from Kurt Farlow and Phil Howard sealed a 4-1 victory for Tempest against Lytham Town.

Tempest sit in second spot with 17 points while Thomason Fold side Turton are fourth on 15 with two games in hand.

Turton's Dylan Winstanley had two extra reasons to celebrate on his 18th birthday as he scored twice in their 6-3 win on the road at Askam United.

Ste Fitton, Kieran Sisson,

Jordan Lomax and Jonny Waterworth were among the other scorers.

Joint manager Neil Johnson said: "I am really pleased for Dylan.

"His work rate was excellent and he deserved his goals on his birthday.

"Away trips to Barrow are always tricky and we dropped points at Askam last season so the victory and three points always make the journey home more enjoyable.

"It's still early days but it's important for us to keep winning to keep the sides above us in touching distance.

"We need to tighten up defensively but some of the football we are playing is excellent."

Meanwhile, Ladybridge trail leaders Burscough Richmond by three points after losing out in a 6-5 goalfest against Wyre Villa.

Sam Parkinson scored a hat-trick while Elliot Waugh and Kirtis Monson.

In the Premier Division, Eagley suffered a 7-3 defeat against Longridge Town.

Player/coach Si Whaley and Joe O'Keith (two) were on target for Eagley.
