WANDERERS are casting their eye over former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi.

The 33-year-old Nigeria international has spent time with Wolves, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday in the last couple of months but has now been called in to train with the Whites at Euxton.

A decision on whether to offer him a deal is likely to be made during the international break.

“Shola has got a good pedigree and might offer us something a little bit different,” said Neil Lennon at his weekly press conference. “We’ll take a good look at him and make a decision from there.”

Ameobi spent the second half of last season at Crystal Palace following a brief spell in Turkey, where he played 11 games for Gaziantep.

He made just four appearances for the Eagles before being released in the summer.
