NEIL Lennon believes a cure for his side’s problems away from home is getting closer by the week.

Having battled back from two goals down to seal a point at Wolves on Tuesday night, the Whites boss is encouraged that performances on the road are – on the whole – improving.

Wanderers are the only Football League club without an away win, their last coming on Easter Monday last year at Cardiff City.

But after taking a draw from Molineux with an under-strength side, Lennon believes he is making progress.

“Our away form has historically been poor but that was a step in the right direction,” he said of the Wolves result. “We haven’t won away from home for almost a year but if we keep playing like that I think it will change.

“We played well at Sheffield Wednesday, not so well at Forest, and there are embryonic signs we will do better in the future.”

Lennon bristled at suggestion from journalists his side had ground out a point at Wolves on Tuesday night, or caught their opponents on an off day.

“That takes it away from us – you’re throwing negatives at me calling it a battling point and saying Wolves were poor.

“I have to take heart from the performance. I wish we’d won but it gives us something to go on and build from.

“We were playing against a side that had won four and drawn two of their last eight games so to come here and play as strongly as we did, I have to be pleased with it.”

Without Gary Madine and Darren Pratley, Lennon named a makeshift front line of full debutant Kaiyne Woolery, Liam Feeney and Wellington Silva.

And the Whites boss was pleased his side adapted their approach accordingly without a target man to aim at for the majority of the game.

“We were very lightweight with Kaiyne making his full debut,” he said. “But I thought the quality of chances we created was great, so it gives us a huge lift going into Saturday and Rotherham.

“If we play as well as that, and find some consistency, then we won’t be far away.

“The style of football was very pleasing on the eye and I hope the fans went home happy with that.”
