WANDERERS have shelved plans to send a first team to Crewe Alexandra on Friday night and will now face York City on Saturday.
Phil Parkinson announced the changes yesterday, stating they better suited his players’ build-up towards the new season ahead.
The York City game will kick-off at 1.30pm and will be the first time the club has played at Bootham Crescent since 1991 when Julian Darby and Mark Patterson scored in a 2-1 League Cup win.
“We’ll be looking at playing a mixture of trialists and younger players at Crewe on Friday evening,” Parkinson explained. “We’ll likely be fielding a stronger team at York City on the Saturday.
“When we came in we knew we had a set of fixtures to work with and use as we deemed best. I’ve spoken to both Jackie McNamara at York and Steve Davis at Crewe and everyone is happy with the arrangements.
“We’ll obviously assess our levels after the game at Tranmere on Tuesday night, then we’ll be able to have a clear run in training with the first team squad through to the game on Saturday.”
