OLDHAM boss Steven Robinson claims Wanderers should never have been awarded the free-kick which led to their opening goal on Saturday.

Paul Green’s foul on Gary Madine on the edge of the box after just 10 minutes presented Zach Clough with a chance he despatched into the top corner.

But the Latics manager was fuming with referee Carl Boyeson after the final whistle, claiming the decision had gifted Wanderers a foothold in the game.

“I don’t know where he sees the free-kick from,” said the Northern Irishman. “Decision after decision goes against you.

“He’s got a difficult job, I understand that, but it’s amazing how many little decisions swayed the game.

“The boys showed an amazing amount of character and the fans were incredible again but we get caught from a decision and a set play.

“Goals change games. It was a super free-kick from the boy – but it was never a free-kick to start with.”

Robinson claimed his side deserved more out of the game as they fell to a 2-0 defeat which put them back into the bottom three.

“Yeah, they are favourites to win the league but I thought we had ownership of a lot of the game,” he said. “That’s a positive we can take from our performance. I don’t think we plugged away. I think we dominated.”
