Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson cuts Northampton Town victory celebrations short ahead of Oxford United clash

Oxford lie in wait at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow night and the Whites boss cut short celebrations after Saturday’s dramatic late win to demand focus from his players.

“The table looks better after that result but we have got to be relentless,” he told The Bolton News. “That is the attitude I need from the lads.

“We had two good wins away but we needed another. There is no time to sit back and take a breather at all.

“It has to be ruthless and professional with everything we do from here on in. We’ll go to Oxford, who I saw play against Sheffield United a few weeks ago and know are a very good side. We need to run ourselves into the ground again because there is plenty of time to rest in the summer.”

Wanderers came from a goal down to rescue three points with a penalty from Adam Le Fondre and a first goal in Bolton colours for Filipe Morais.

It was the fourth time Parkinson’s side had recovered from such a position to win this season and the manager was quick to acknowledge that the supporters had been a key inspiration.

“Psychologically it is really important. I just felt second half, having the energy in the midfield with Pratley and Vela was great.

“Our supporters know there have been times at home this season where we have had too much possession against us and we haven’t gone up against teams enough.

“It reminded me a little bit of the Scunthorpe game where the fans got behind us at the right moments.

“They detected we weren’t playing badly. They just really lifted the boys.

“The lads were saying that when the place gets like that it’s a great place to play your football. They are thoroughly enjoying it.”

Jay Spearing also returned after missing the last three games, coming off the bench after Le Fondre’s equaliser and playing a part in the winning goal.

“Bringing Jay on with a little bit more experience just steadied the ship a little bit,” he said.
