LIFE on the road has not been kind to Breightmet United, who just cannot catch a break at the moment.

United have yet to play a home game – or find the net – since the turn of the year, suffering six defeats without scoring in their six Division One matches so far.

But manager Paul Roberts remains confident his young side can turn their fortunes around once they get back to familiar surroundings.

All but two of their 12 remaining league games will take place at Moss Park and Roberts is convinced there is more than enough talent in the squad to end their barren run.

“We’ve got a very young team and it is difficult for young players when their confidence is low, but we are having no luck either,” he said.

“The performances have been better than the results, we have had chance after chance but not been able to take them.

“In a lot of these games there has been nothing in it but whatever can go wrong for us has gone wrong.

“We have changed formations and tried everything we can, all I can do is tell the lads to keep going. We can drag ourselves out of it because we’re good enough.”

Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Westbury Sports Club typified their rotten luck, compounded by a second-half red card for Kurt Farlow after an altercation with the hosts’ Jack Martin, who was also dismissed.

“I don’t have any complaints about the sending off,” admitted Roberts, whose side are to host local rivals Bolton County this Saturday.

“It was sheer frustration, it was a day where again we didn’t get any luck. We felt their second and third goals were both offside while their keeper made some great saves.

“We are in a rut but I can’t fault the attitude and effort of every one of them. We are up for this fight.”
