WANDERERS are promoted to the Championship after a dominating 3-0 victory over Peterborough United at the Macron Stadium.

Phil Parkinson’s side produced a magical performance in front of more than 22,000 fans, sparking jubilant celebrations at the final whistle.

Despite being in a transfer embargo for the entire season Wanderers have bounced back straight away after relegation to reclaim their place in the second tier.

They do so after conceding just 36 goals – a record over a 46-game campaign – and having won 25 games.

The goal which settled the nerves arrived on 22 minutes as Dorian Dervite swung a cross towards the far post, buried by Jem Karacan, who was making his first start at the Macron.

Wanderers dominated for the next 15 minutes and Adam Le Fondre, Gary Madine and Andy Taylor all had close-range efforts blocked.

But Peterborough started to creep into the game and only a last-gasp tackle from Mark Beevers denied Tom Nichols a free shot on goal from six yards out.

David Wheater also had to make an emergency clearance as Posh went in search of an equaliser.

But that was as close as Grant McCann’s team came to upsetting the promotion party and giving third-placed Fleetwood any chance of leapfrogging them into second.

Wanderers held firm and started the second period confidently, ending any chance of a Posh comeback when Madine kept the pressure on from a Fil Morais corner and Wheater headed home his ninth of the season.

Mark Beevers forced a fine save out of Luke McGee with a rasping left-footed effort but the Whites were not to be denied a third, and Josh Vela slipped a great ball in for Adam Le Fondre to complete a superb victory.
