ANDY Taylor hopes to see plenty of last season’s promotion heroes follow his lead and sign on the dotted line at Wanderers this summer.

The former Wigan Athletic full-back agreed a two-year deal with the Whites yesterday to become Phil Parkinson’s second signing in a week.

Out-of-contract stars like Adam Le Fondre, David Wheater, Jay Spearing and Gary Madine remain in talks about staying on in the Championship.

Taylor believes keeping the core of the squad which climbed out of League One could give them a good chance of success next season.

“I’ve spoken to a few of the lads and a lot of them are in the middle of negotiations now,” he said. “It’s down to them and their representatives to get something done.

“But from my point of view I’d love to see the club keep that nucleus of players and then add a little bit of quality. We can keep momentum going that way.

“I’ve been lucky, got myself sorted early, but realistically these things can drag on through June and it can be a drawn-out process.”

Taylor made 40 appearances on loan last term and was delighted to lay some solid roots down at the Macron.

“I’m at an age now where I want to be happy and stable at a club,” he told The Bolton News. “The last few years have been hectic, not just for me but for my family as well.

“I’ve got a young lad now and another on the way, so I don’t want to be fretting every July about whether I’ll be in London or up north.

“I really enjoyed my time here last season, so to get this sorted is absolutely perfect.”

Taylor also paid tribute to team-mate David Wheater, who picked up the PFA League One Player of the Year award yesterday.

The big centre-half had already swept the boards at Wanderers but beat Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp to the prize with 40 per cent of the fans’ online vote.

“Wheats made sure it went on our group chat to vote for him,” laughed Taylor. “But, for me, he deserves every bit of credit that comes his way.

“He’s had a tough few years with injuries and what have you but I know what he’s about.

“I started my career with him at Middlesbrough and he was a quality player and nothing has changed.”
