ADAM Le Fondre has vowed to make up for lost time in the Championship next season.

After signing a two-year deal with Wanderers yesterday the 30-year-old is keen to show he can still cut it in the second tier after unsuccessful spells at Cardiff City, Wolves and Wigan Athletic.

Le Fondre has earned hero status with the Whites after two profitable loan spells. But the 30-year-old feels 18 months of his career have been “stolen” and is now aiming to vent his frustration by firing Phil Parkinson’s side to safety next season.

“I’ve not done a pre-season in two years apart from working with the Under-23s at Cardiff, which hindered me,” he told The Bolton News. “I have been under-used at Wolves, under-used at Wigan and at this stage of my career I can only see it as wasted time. It has been stolen.

“It is easier to take being out of the team if you’re 18 or 19 but not when people start writing you off and saying you can’t handle Championship football.

“I’m looking forward to proving a few people wrong. People have been writing me off all my career – I’m too small, I’m not good enough to step up a level.

“This isn’t a financially-oriented move. I’m not playing for free but I know playing for Bolton Wanderers will need hard work, every ounce of effort I can put in.

“This club and the fans have been brilliant to me. I am not taking anything for granted.”

Le Fondre feels stability is the aim for Wanderers next season, and is hoping Parkinson gets all the help he needs to improve his squad.

“You need a good dressing room,” he said. “We have certainly got that but we need a bit more quality to handle the step up.

“It depends on how it goes with the embargo – but I think we need to make sure we finish above the bottom three next season and then move on from there.”

Le Fondre has also confirmed on social media the deal he has signed with Wanderers includes the option of an extra year depending on appearances.

Parkinson added: “We are really pleased with the signing of Alfie. He made a positive contribution last season and has a real hunger and desire to play for the club in the Sky Bet Championship.”
