WANDERERS have confirmed Sammy Ameobi will miss the start of the Championship season with knee injury.

The summer signing has had minor surgery on a torn knee cartilage and will be out of action for six weeks.

Ameobi arrived at the Macron on a free transfer after his release at Newcastle United and had featured in a handful of pre-season games.

New signings Aaron Wilbraham, Josh Cullen, Reece Burke, Adam Armstrong, Antonee Robinson, Andy Taylor, Adam Le Fondre, Stephen Darby and Mark Little are all vying for a starting spot against Leeds United this afternoon.
