THE Divisional Cup competitions got off to a stuttering start with the Division One preliminary tie between Queen Lizzy and Salford Waggon postponed.

The Division Two preliminary game between Radcliffe Vets and league leaders Turton Vets saw Turton progress with a 2-1 win.

Karl Beswick scored for Radcliffe, but that was not enough as Stu Williams struck twice for Turton.

The competition for Divisions Three and Four is in an initial group phase and in Division Three A Horwich St Mary’s Victoria beat Dobbies B 2-1 despite David Cosgrove scoring for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Home Guard Failsworth pulled off a 3-1 win against Radcliffe Town thanks to goals by Rob Black, Ben Johnson and Nick Bowels.

Wigan Town and Ainsworth A shared the points in their Division Three B game which finished 3-3.

Ian Tinsdale’s two goals as well as strikes from Dan Wright and Paul Greenough, gave Vulcan Walkden four at home to Morning Star, but the visitors scored six to win.

It was one-way traffic in the Division Four A game at Bury Seniors as they crashed to a 4-0 defeat by visitors Heaton Casuals for whom Chris Sutton and Rob Walsh each scored two.

Despite scoring four goals at home to Atherton Town, thanks to a McCarthy hat-trick and one by Grundy, Bolton Wyresdale were held to 4-4 draw as John Done (two), Martin Jordan and Marc Breatherton earned a point for the visitors.

In Division Four B there were 10 goals as hosts Radcliffe Old Boys B beat Ainsworth B 6-4.

Nathan Cormley scored four for Radcliffe, Mark Owen and Paul DeLaff adding one each to negate Ainsworth B’s four scored by Andy Nuttall, Alan Holsworth, Gareth Harrison and Paul Cannon.

Bamford Arms had a good day in their Division One league match as they beat Bar Lane Bowling Club 5-1 to move up to third.

Daz Smith scored four and Jermaine Peters one as Tony Beech netted a consolation goal for Bar Lane.

In Division Two, Old Boltonians made up ground on hosts Dobbies A, beating them 4-2, and are now two points behind with two games in hand.
