D’HAVILLAND and Barr Hill left it late before winning through to the Open Cup semi-finals.

The pair hit late winners to see off the challenge of Bridge Celtic and Westhoughton, respectively.

In a goalless first half centre-half Danny Chadwick was outstanding for home team and D'Havilland took the lead in the 65th minute when Rhys Jones headed home Glen Mathews' free kick.

Bridge Celtic pressed for an equaliser but were constantly thwarted by the home defence in which Chadwick continued his man-of-the-match performance.

Bridge were not to be denied, however, and finally made the breakthrough two minutes from time when Tyler Hill slotted into the corner to take the game to extra time.

It was not to be for them, though, as D'Havilland captain Kieron Marsh played in Reece Jones to score two minutes from time.

Second Division leaders Barr Hill came out on top in a five-goal thriller with a Westhoughton side who are one place behind them in the league.

Barr Hill took an early lead with an excellent finish from centre-half Connor Jones.

The lead was shortlived as Westhoughton levelled the score after a mix-up in Barr Hill’s defence which left Callum May with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Westhoughton took the lead in the 70th minute when Adam Doreen broke through the defence to score.

The home team responded by going on all-out attack and captain Luke Jones drew his side level when he pounced after the goalkeeper was unable to hold on to the ball from a corner on 80 minutes.

And with the game looking set to go to extra time Rhuben Rose delivered a superb ball into the box and Jones was in the right place at the right time again, calmly controlling before driving home the winner with an excellent strike which sent Barr Hill into the last four and one game from the final at the Macron stadium.

There were also three games played in the league.

In Division One Newbury FC travelled to Astley Bridge Elite in a game which saw both teams put on excellent displays but neither able to claim the three points.

Dominic Sharples scored a hat-trick for the away team which was added to by Brent Helliwell’s goal.

Astley Bridge responded with two goals from Joe Howlin and one each from James Stubbs and Adam Knowles, for a final scoreline of 4-4.

In Division Two, Bolton Rangers welcomed Deane FC and continued their excellent recent form with a 7-1 victory.

Yaz Smajic found the net twice with the winners' others coming from James Entwhistle, Stuart Moss, Gavin Kernonan, Dave Stuart and Nathan Hatton.

Hosts Bolton Town beat Wellington FC 5-1 with Dillon Hewitt and John Yates scoring twice each and Danny Hart getting the other for the winners while Liam Ashworth scored Wellington’s consolation.
