TWO goals apiece for Luca Navarro and Mason Birch helped Wanderers Under-18s get back to winning ways when they beat Sheffield United 4-0 on home soil.

The young Whites began the U18 Professional Development League clash brightly at Lostock and created early chances –

Matty Barnes, Navarro and Cameron Moore all going close to breaking the deadlock.

On 20 minutes the breakthrough finally arrived for Nicky Spooner's side when a fast break saw Barnes link up well with Navarro and the latter fired home from outside the Blades' box.

It was 2-0 soon after when Birch pounced to net the rebound after an initial Barnes effort had been saved.

A third first-half goal illustrated the hosts' dominance, Birch again on target after a set-piece saw Moore pull the ball back.

The second half saw more domination from Wanderers but they only scored once more.

Again it was Navarro linking well, this time with Birch, before scoring with another long-range effort.

Spooner said: "We started the game very well, attacking from the kick off and creating early chances.

"Then in the second half we dominated possession and played some good football."

The U18s face Sheffield opposition again on Saturday when they travel to face Wednesday, kick off 11am.
