THE top three knew any slip-ups would probably cost them their chance of winning the Bolton At Home Sunday League Division One title.

Leaders Farnworth United had the hardest test as they travelled to Harper Green to take on Dehaviland.

And they rose to the challenge as they edged a thrilling Farnworth derby 3-2.

Farnworth took the lead inside five minutes when Gaz Bentley scored from close range following a corner.

Dehaviland took time to settle but once they did they played excellent football and got a deserved equaliser in the 35th minute thanks to a great run and finish by the impressive Kristian Preston.

Dehaviland took the lead on 50 minutes when Reece Jones smashed the ball home after Farnworth keeper Ash Kirkman could only palm Nathan Jones’ missile of a throw-in into Reece Jones’ path.

Going behind seemed to wake Farnworth up. They started to press and on 60 minutes got an equaliser with a superb run and finish from Aron Monks.

With both sides playing some excellent football and impressive rearguard actions by both defences – in which Farnworth’s Lance Hall and Dehaviland’s Danny Chadwick were having fine games – the game was in the balance.

And it swung Farnworth’s way with 10 minutes left when McAuley Farrington beat his marker and slotted past keeper Glen Mathews.

Reigning Champions Queen Anne, who are second, resoundingly beat bottom-placed Manny Road 8-2 with goals from Gaz Cunniff (three), Stuart Schofield (two), Jason Perry, Chris Cankallis and Craig Lewis.

Sam Santley got both the consolation goals for Manny Road. Third-placed Top Club kept the pressure on Farnworth and Queen Anne with a 5-0 home victory over Newbury in which Josh Smith scored four goals and Darren Budgin got the other.

Astley Bridge Elite edged a mid-table clash with Bridge Celtic 3-2 with the winning goal coming in the 92nd minute thanks to an good finish by Josh Nicholson.

Astley Bridge’s other goals came from Nicholson and Chris McGaughtrie with Paul Jones and Jake Ross on the scoresheet for Bridge Celtic.

Deane convincingly beat Bolton Rangers 4-0 to earn the right to take on Westhoughton in the final of the Division Two League Cup, Nathan Hatton scoring two and Yaz Smajic and James Inel getting the others.
