THREE hours after the brilliant performance by Bolton Wanderers on Sunday there was, in some people’s eyes, a game of just as much importance as Top Club took on Queen Anne in the Bolton at Home Sunday Football League Open Cup final at the Macron Stadium.

Top Club started strongly with Lewis Porter bringing an excellent save out of goalkeeper Craig Lewis and then getting the better of full-back Kris Powers and firing into the side netting in the opening seven minutes.

After 11 minutes Queen Anne managed their first attack only for winger Stuart Schofield to shoot over when it was probably easier to score.

Queen Anne went ahead on 16 minutes when Powers provided an excellent cross for Adam Bullock to knock the ball past stranded goalkeeper Adam Walker.

On the 30-minute mark Top Club's prolific striker Travis Vaughn decided to take the bull by the horns as he picked the ball up just outside the penalty area, beat two men and smashed the ball into the back of the net to give give his team the equaliser.

After 35 minutes Queen Anne’s inspirational, and arguably the best defender in the Bolton Sunday League, Tom Halligan found himself with a chance to score but his shot rebounded off the post.

Then in the last minute of the half Lewis produced another excellent save to thwart man-of-the-match midfielder Tom Jones.

The second half got underway with again Top Club looking the more sharper and with only five minutes of the half gone Vaughn picked the ball up outside the area, beat two defenders and fired in a shot. Lewis parried but Vaughn was first to respond and he knocked the ball into the empty net to give the Little Hulton side a 2-1 lead.

After 63 minutes veteran striker Kieran Edwards came close with a bullet of a header for Queen Anne which went wide.

Queen Anne’s manager Dean Walmsley made changes as the scorching temperatures began to affect both teams.

He brought on winger Niall Callaghan and had two one-on-ones with Walker which the goalkeeper won.

With Queen Anne throwing everything at Top Club in search of an equaliser, the Little Hulton side broke away in the last minute and substitute striker Adam Doyle beat his marker and let fly with a shot that hit a post only for Reece Charlton to slot in the rebound.
