CONNOR Hall is targeting a league debut for Wanderers next season - and another hatful of goals.

The 20-year-old striker signed a new one-year deal last week after scoring 22 times for the development squad in his first full campaign at the Macron Stadium.

He admits to some disappointment that he never managed to build on his first taste of senior football, made in the FA Cup against Huddersfield Town. But Hall says working with the likes of Adam Le Fondre and Gary Madine last season have made him hungry for more.

“My aim this season is to get into the first team and show I can score goals there too,” he told The Bolton News. “I had that taste in the FA Cup and I have been in and around it for the last six months.

“Towards the end of the season, in the position we were in down at the bottom of the league, I understand it was harder for me to get games. Ultimately, in the grand scheme of things, staying up was the main thing. But I am determined to get back, train as hard as I can and push my way in there if I possibly can.”

Hall was earmarked for a loan move in January but the uncertainty over Madine’s situation - and his eventual sale to Cardiff City - meant he was needed as cover.

“I don’t think they really knew what was happening with Gaz and then after he went I was third in line, so I couldn’t have gone,” he said.

“Definitely towards the end of the season, and particularly the last game, I wondered if I’d get a place on the bench.

“I was a bit gutted, if I’m honest. I’ve always had a good attitude about that kind of thing, though. I don’t like getting beat but I’ll move on - you can’t get too down because there are so many highs and lows in football.”

Hall also believes his game has improved since arriving from Sheffield United thanks to the help of David Lee and Tony Kelly in the Under-23s set-up.

“They have been brilliant for me,” he said. “I didn’t start last season well but they stayed behind and worked on my shooting. And it worked!”
