THERE was a week of shocks at the top of the Division One table with Atherton Town the only side in the top five to record a victory.

They moved into fourth place after putting five past bottom club Walkden CC with no reply.

Mick O’Neil and Gary Peachey shared the goals, with O’Neil bagging a hat-trick.

Paul Costello scored twice for leaders Cheers Bar Vets, but they were held to a 2-2 draw at second-bottom Victoria.

Pineapple moved level on points with Radcliffe Old Boys after beating them 2-1 away from home.

They had the referee to thank after edging the match with two penalties. The defeat saw Radcliffe drop two places to sixth as both Atherton and Queen Lizzie moved above them. Queen Lizzie pulled off another shock, winning 2-1 at second-placed Daten.

John Done scored the only goal of the game for Division Two leaders Henighans at home to PF Bury in one of only two matches played in the division.

Chorlton Sports won 2-0 at Ainsworth A in the other game.

There was no competition about which was the match of the day in Division Three as Bolton Lads and Girls Club won 7-0 at Failsworth Home Guard, with Alan Mitchell scoring a hat-trick.
