BREIGHTMET manager Simon Wilcox says he and his players are determined to build on Saturday’s first win of the Division One season.

Kyle Bailey helped secure the 2-1 victory at home to third-placed Boothstown with a goal either side of half time – his second a blistering free-kick from 20 yards.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men after that and the visitors pulled a goal back through a set-piece.

But Wilcox had nothing but praise for his players’ attitude as they put their bodies on then line in a brave rearguard action to earn all three points.

“It has felt like a long time coming but it is great to finally get the winning feeling back around the place,” said Wilcox.

“We have put in some decent performances this season, just never for the full 90 minutes. But the squad is settling down now and being able to name the same team week in, week out has helped.

“Boothstown were the best team we have played so far, they are a good passing side, but I think we at least matched them and fully deserved the win.”

Leigh Athletic also opened their account, putting Pennington to the sword 4-0 to claim their first win of the Division One campaign.

Danny Eaton pounced after a scramble in the box to open the scoring before strike partner grabbed a second-half hat-trick.

The results moved Breightmet up to eighth place in the table, with Pennington in ninth and Leigh 10th.

In the Premier Division, Atherton Town recovered from the early loss of star striker Nick Eastham with a stomach injury to beat bottom side Chapel Town 3-2. Ryan Corbett set up Jimmy McMullen for the opener before scoring the second himself.

Chapel Town pulled one back before the break before Eastham’s replacement, Hensley Mills, weighed in with his second assist of the game to put Gaz Shaw through for a third.

Hindsford were knocked off top spot after their scheduled game at second-bottom Rochdale Sacred Hearts was called off.
