LADYBRIDGE kept alive hopes of a league and cup double after winning 2-1 at local rivals CMB in the quarter-finals of the West Lancashire League Challenge Cup.

Dave Walker's side, who have a 12-point lead at the top of Division Two, won through thanks to second-half goals from Danny Edmondson and Jordan Coop, before CMB's Will Archer pulled a goal back late in the game.

Defences were on top in a goalless first half, although both sides had decent chances to score.

Edmondson appeared to be felled in the box but had his penalty claim turned down, while both Matty Woods and Coop put shots wide for Ladybridge.

CMB were largely restricted to long-range efforts, although they hit the post from 25 yards and Ladybridge keeper Steven Goodridge spread himself well to block a shot from inside the box.

Sam Parkinson had another penalty claim for the visitors turned down after the break before Ladybridge finally made the breakthrough.

Gary Whiteside's cross found Woods who headed down for Edmondson to volley home.

CMB pressed forward in search of an equaliser but struggled to create any chances.

Coop then made it 2-0 with a wonderful strike from the edge of the box after good work from Alex Smith and Edmondson down the right.

And while CMB pressure paid off for Archer to score, there was not enough time for them to find an equaliser.

Stoneclough also crashed out of the competition losing 11-2 at Haslingden St Mary's.

Kyle Tomlinson's first-half goal was sandwiched between two strikes from the hosts to see Stoneclough trail 2-1 at the break.

But after an early mistake, they found themselves 3-1 down and the goals kept hitting the back of the net, although Steve Parkinson did grab a consolation goal for Stoneclough.

In the league, Bolton County moved off the foot of the Division One table with a 1-0 win at Wyre Villa.

Joe Fielding had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half, but County were finally rewarded for their pressure on 75 minutes, when Phil Crowe fired home the winner from the spot.

Kieran Sisson scored four goals for Turton in a 6-1 victory at Mill Hill St Peters to keep their Division One promotion hopes alive.

The third-placed side, who are outside the promotion places on goal difference after drawing level with Poulton, took the lead after Daniel Locke was fouled in the penalty area and Sisson duly dispatched the spot kick.

They doubled their tally when a wonderful crossfield pass by Jonny Waterworth was brilliantly controlled by Sisson, who drove past his marker and fired across the keeper into the far corner.

Neil Johnson's side were well in control and made it 3-0 before half time when Ste Fitton fired home.

Two goals at the start of the second half killed the game as a contest with efforts by Sisson and Jordan Lomax.

Sisson rounded things off with his fourth after St Peters had pulled one back.

Johnson said: "This was another pleasing performance.

"We matched Mill Hill's work rate and our extra quality counted.

"We have some very tough games coming up, starting with Tempest in the cup next week and then three massive league games against Burscough Richmond and back-to-back fixtures against Poulton.

"Both sides are in the mix for promotion and the outcome of these games could define our season, but we go into them full of confidence."

Elsewhere in Division One, Tempest United took the lead with a goal by Linford Stewart but conceded two goals in five second-half minutes to go down 2-1 against Hawcoat Park.

In the top flight, Eagley remain outside the relegation zone on goal difference despite a 4-3 defeat at Garstang.

Eagley striker Jack Horan was sent off minutes into the game for retaliating after being punched by a Garstang player.

But even with 10 men they remained competitive, with goals from Danny Vincent and Neil Bebbington and a penalty from player manager Simon Whaley giving them hope, but they were unable to force their way to a point.
