DAISY Hill gave themselves a confidence booster when they beat North West Counties League lowly rivals Whitchurch Alport in a seven-goal thriller on Saturday.

The New Sirs men remain second bottom but climb level on points with Whitchurch and Northwich Manchester Villa after the home victory.

It was only their second win in 12 league games this season, and came against a side who have proved difficult to beat despite their third-bottom position.

Whitchurch had only lost five of their 13 games in the division but are yet to win with all their eight points coming from draws.

Daniel Gregory put Daisy ahead on 14 minutes and after the visitors equalised Matthew Davison restored the lead then extended it with goals either side of the break.

Whitchurch set hearts fluttering when they pulled a goal back on 65 minutes and Danny Halloran settled nerves when he made it 4-1 on 83 minutes before the visitors got the home pulses racing again with the last goal of an exciting game two minutes later.

Atherton LR are just three places and four points better off than Daisy – with a game in hand after going down 4-1 at home to eight-placed Cheadle Town.

Craig Dickinson got the Crilly Park side's goal to make it 2-1 in the 56th minute.

In the Premier Division Atherton Collieries are four points off third place with at least two games in hand on all the teams but one above them after a 1-1 draw at Winsford United.

Mark Battersby put Colls ahead on 24 minutes before the home side equalised on 61.
