Boro's sponsor challenge to businesses

RADCLIFFE Borough chief executive David Murgatroyd has challenged businesses in the town to compete to become main sponsors of the club.

The UniBond Division One North side are currently preparing for the 2009/10 season without a sponsor after the agreement between Borough and Inn2Gether came to end this year.

Director of football Gerry Luczka looks likely to keep the squad which turned on the style to avoid relegation this season, but whether he can strengthen the side for the new campaign will depend on whether a sponsor comes forward.

The club is offering names across the shirts, match day and programme advertising as well as prestigious golf day events at the Mere Golf Club where sponsors get the chance to play against celebrity sports personalities and, in some cases, Premier League football managers.

Murgatroyd said: “We’ve always had terrific support from the town of Radcliffe, but the one thing that disappoints me is that no locally-based firm has ever sponsored the club.

“You would think it might be an attractive proposition when you consider how much progress the club has made in the last 20 years.

“When the current regime took over there was nothing but a railing round the pitch, but we now have a modest stadium and superb facilities for training and playing.”

Meanwhile, Borough have started their search for a full-time groundsman after the departure of Alf Padena after seven years.

Training may be given to someone wanting to learn the job.

And Murgatroyd said Borough were looking for volunteers to help out at the club.
