ATHERTON Collieries have moved quickly to re-appoint Paul Gregory as chairman following Ian Williams’ resignation after just one season at Alder House.
Williams insisted the club’s relegation to Division One of the Vodkat NW Counties League had no bearing on his decision to step down, but said in a statement on the league’s official website: “I just felt that it was time to move on, as I didn’t believe I would be able to help develop the club in the way I would have wanted.”
Gregory is a former chairman of Collieries and served as vice-chairman when Williams, who is a member of the NW Counties League management committee, was at the helm.
Player-manager Dave Conlon has been given assurances he will remain in charge next season when the Atherton club aim to make a swift return to the Premier Division.
