UniBond League round-up

RADCLIFFE Borough’s recent good run ended with an undeserved 2-1 defeat at Clitheroe in the Unibond League First Division.

Clitheroe made a great start and took an eigth-minute lead when Danny Williams crossed from the left and Alan Coar stretched a leg out in front of goal to divert the ball home.

Borough equalised in the 61st minute with a neat finish and from then on it really was an open game.

The Blues grabbed the winner 12 minutes from time when Ryan Fisher won possession, played the ball back to Williams and he stroked it square for Jason Jones to drill home from 12 yards.

Leigh Genesis’s brave band of unpaid players finally lost their proud unbeaten home record as Lancashire rivals Chorley scored a goal in each half to run out victors at Leigh Sports Village.

Chorley took the lead on 20 minutes when Reece Kelly’s left-wing corner was missed by Genesis goalkeeper Stephen Drench, which allowed Stuart Howson to head home at the back post.

Former Genesis striker Chris Amadi caused problems all afternoon and he grabbed Chorley’s second in the 62 minute with a thunderous strike that was too hot for Drench to keep out at his near post.

In the Premier Division Kyle Wilson hit a hat-trick as FC United thrashed Nantwich Town 6-1 to make a mockery of their relegation worries.

Simon Carden, Ben Deegan and Jerome Wright got the other goals as the rampant Reds demolished the Dabbers on their own patch and lifted themselves well clear of the drop zone with a second successive win.
