LEIGH Genesis, whose relegation from the Evo- Stik League Division One North was confirmed last weekend, registered a morale-boosting victory over Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday and could hoist themselves off the foot of the table if they avoid defeat tomorrow.
A better result than second-bottom Osset Albion, who travel to AFC Fylde, will see them overtake the Yorkshire side in the race to avoid the wooden spoon.
Meanwhile, Benny Phillips has challenged his Radcliffe Borough side to rise to the occasion when titlechasing Chester visit Stainton Park tomorrow.
“The performances have been pretty good in recent weeks but we need to start putting some points on the board because the table does not make for good reading,” Phillips said.
Atherton LR will need to sharpen up in attack and improve defensively if they are to cause an upset at high-flying Barnoldswick Town in the Vodkat NW Counties Premier Division.
Mid-table LR led twice and missed a number of chances before having to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to Alsager Town on Wednesday – a performance manager Glenn Moses described as “disappointing”.
Atherton Collieries, who have squandered twogoal leads in their last two games – both defeats – will be hoping to avoid a hat-trick when they travel to bottom club Rochdale Town in the First Division. Daisy Hill travel to Eccleshall.
