Atherton Collieries recorded another impressive North West Counties Division One away victory on Saturday with a 4-1 success against Widnes Vikings.

Gareth Peet scored after only two minutes to give Colls an early lead, but Vikings responded almost immediately and equalised on eight minutes with a Ben Tollitt volley.

Collieries snatched a goal against the run of play in the final attack of the half to take a 2-1 lead into the interval, Paul Atherton’s shot going in after taking a wicked deflection.

Kevin Towey scored on his debut for Atherton on 54 minutes before Paul Atherton grabbed his second of the match nine minutes before time. Daisy Hill came from behind at Eccleshall to win 2-1 – their first victory in six matches.

Dan Colclough put the hosts ahead in the eighth minute but Daisy were deservedly back on level terms midway through the second half when Alex Mort finished superbly. The comeback was completed eight minutes later as Ryan Mee hit an unstoppable free kick.

Elsewhere, Atherton LR slumped to a 5-1 reverse at Nelson, their first defeat in four matches after what had been an impressive run. Peter Wright put the home side in front after three minutes and it was not until the second half that striker Ritchie Allen then scored twice, before LR pulled a goal back through Mark Ayres on 81 minutes. But two late goals from Mick Berry and Robert Grimes secured the three points for Nelson.
