ATHERTON LR were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at Cheadle Town on Wednesday evening and remain in sixth place in North West Counties League Division One.

Rovers took the lead on the stroke of half time when Nathan Battersby hit an unstoppable free kick into the top right hand corner. Despite the visitors having many chances to wrap the game up, the hosts equalised on 70 minutes with a Matthew German header.

Both sides had chances to win the game late on, but a physical match produced a fair result.

LR are in League Cup action at home to AFC Darwen tomorrow. The two sides last met in August with Michael Clegg’s men claiming an impressive 3-1 victory away from home.

Daisy Hill are also in cup action and they welcome Irlam to New Sirs. A win will see Daisy record consecutive victories for the first time since the opening week of the campaign.

Atherton Collieries were due to play Cheadle Town at home in the cup, but a bereavement within the club means the tie has been postponed as a sign of respect.

The match will now take place on Wednesday. Subsequently, the away trip to Ashton Town which was due to take place on Tuesday has been postponed and will be rearranged in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Evo-Stik Division One North side Radcliffe Borough visit Clitheroe for an FA Trophy preliminary round clash hoping to welcome back Rhys Day from a calf injury.
