MORRIS Dancers remain the leading challengers to Cattle Market’s dominance of Division One after they won 7-2 at bottom club Great Lever.

The second-placed side spread the scoring around as six players found the net.

Jay Smith fired home twice, while Ady Nugent, Craig Sloane, Dave Bretherton, Scott Dootson and Danny Bowcock also scored.

Cattle Market are still the team to beat, however, as the league leaders clocked up their 10th win of the season at home to mid-table Gilnow Arms to stay three points clear of their closest rivals.

Sean Rothwell was Cattle Market’s top scorer on Sunday, with two of the goals in their 5-2 victory over Gilnow, while Jamie Hayes and Brent Halliwell were on target for the visitors.

Darcy Lever closed the gap on Mosesgate in the bottom half of the table with a 10-2 win at their rivals.

Hat-tricks from Paul Lomax and Gaz Whiteside, along with strikes from Steve Dawson, Ross Vining, Adam Allwill and Nat Whittle helped Darcy move up one place to fourth bottom – one behind Mosesgate.

Division Two leaders Queen Anne maintained their 100 per cent record with a 4-2 win at home to third-placed Deane.

Their 13th win of the season kept them 12 points clear of second-placed Heaton Cricket club, who won 5-1 at home to Astley Bridge.

Tony McCormick, Andy Rosbottom, Danny Hague, Mark Olawumi and Lance Humphries were all on target for Heaton.

Great Lever Wanderers won 10-4 at home to bottom club Westhoughton.

Ant Greer was the star performer with four goals, while Gaz Lomax helped himself to two and Arron Walmesley, Ant Foster, Reece Lomax and Danny Philips found the back of the net to keep Wanderers in fourth. Queen Lizzie remain one place behind them after an 8-3 win in which Arron McCarthy hit opponents Brindley for six and Tom Mann and Andy Claire finished off the scoring.
