BAD weather once again hit the West Lancashire League programme at the weekend, with only two of our local sides managing to get a game.

Both those came in Division One, where Bolton County drew a blank in a stalemate with Furness Rovers and Turton slumped to a 4-2 defeat against Poulton.

Bolton County’s match started brightly enough as they enjoyed good possession and pinned the visitors back, dominating the first half.

Liam Stewart came close to scoring for County, heading a corner against the crossbar before Tom Aspen’s shot struck the post.

Furness found a way back into the game in the second half, seeing a bit more of the ball.

But County still missed decent opportunities to score as the game petered out to a 0-0 draw.

Henry Chapman, Bolton County manager, said: “How on earth we did not get all three points is beyond me, but the lads were much better this week.

"Our ball retention was much better in difficult conditions and we passed the ball very well.

"Credit to Furness, they came here with a game plan, got men behind the ball and defended very well.”

Turton were frustrated in defeat against Poulton.

The match was played in bad conditions and mistakes in defence proved costly for Neil Johnston’s side.

They conceded two goals before Ally Dickson pulled one back for 2-1.

However, hopes of a revival were dealt a blow as they went 4-1 down before Daniel Locke scored a consolation goal.

It was a disappointing weekend for the rest of our clubs as Eagley’s trip to Vickerstown was called off, as was CMB’s game with Haslingden St Mary’s, while Stoneclough did not travel to Todmorden due to a waterlogged pitch.
