CMB booked their place in the quarter-final of the Lancashire Amateur Shield after a convincing 4-2 win against Burscough Richmond.

Will Archer scored a superb 30-yard strike after 25 minutes and they doubled their lead with a goal by Charlie Scholes 10 minutes later.

Callum Yearsley was a constant threat down the right and delivered a cross which saw Scholes net his second with a neat finish.

Burscough pulled one goal back from the spot before Archer made it 4-1 with 15 minutes to go.

But Burscough who had the final say with a late strike.

Manager Phil Roberts said: “I asked for a response from the team after last week’s shambles (losing 2-1 to Barrow Wanderers) and I certainly got it.

“Burscough are a good side and we beat them in every aspect of the game.”

Joining the Chew Moor team in the last eight are West Lancs Division One side Tempest United after their 1-0 victory against Gregorians.

Pete Lancaster grabbed the winner in the 75th minute as they held on for victory.

Manchester League champions Hindsford were kicking themselves after losing away to West Lancs League Premier Division side Coppull United.

The Squires Lane men who have specifically targeted the cup competitions this season, looked well on the way to the next round when they led 2-0 at half time.

But after being pegged back to 2-2 they lost 5-4 on penalties – Liam Morrison missing the first spot-kick.

“I can’t put it down to Liam that we lost, it was the whole team,” said manager Barry Massey.

“We had it in our own hands and threw it away. We were all over the place in the second half.

“A few players were off the mark and it cost us.”

Connor Payne put Hindsford ahead with a sensational volley, which he hooked over his shoulder – but was injured soon after and was replaced by Jack Valentine, who doubled the lead straight after going on.

“I wanted to win this cup, but I had a feeling before the game it wasn’t going to be our day,and even 2-0 up at half time I wasn’t confident,” Massey added.
