HINDSFORD’S Gilgryst Cup campaign came to a disppointing end when they suffered a 3-1 extra-time defeat at home to fellow Premier Division strugglers Chapel Town.
The tie hinged on the dismissal of Hindsford skipper and centre-back Grant Willett, who was red-carded for a foul five minutes from the end of normal time.
The Atherton side had recovered well from conceding an early goal and were back on terms just before half time when Dane Grimes equalised with a well-struck free kick. And they were much the better side in the second half until Willett received his marching orders.
Chapel Town took full advantage, scoring twice early in the extra period and, although the vistors ended the game with only nine players after having one man sent off and another injured after using their full complement of substitutes, Hindsford could not rescue the tie.
Pennington reached the semi-final of the Murray Shield with a 3-0 victory over Salford Vics.
Andy Banks put the Leigh side ahead early on and Karl Giles gave them a cushion five minutes after the break, before 16-year-old striker James Brooks, who has been a revelation sincebeing drafted in from the junior ranks, grabbed the third five minutes from time.

In Division One, Fives Athletic battled bravely to draw 1-1 at home to West Didsbury & Chorlton, having been reduced to 10 men after just 15 minutes. bing on the receiving end of a bad challenge but Fives rode the storm and were rewarded when Matt Little turned in a Karl Payne corner just before half time.
West Didsbury stepped up the pressure after the break and got the equaliser five minutes from time when Lewis picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and hit a superb strike into the top corner.
