SMOKIES Farnworth lifted the Bolton Sunday League's Open Cup when they beat Gibralter Rock 3-2 in a thrilling contest.
Smokies went into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Gary French and Trev Walsh. However, Carl Caffrey and Niall Callahan both netted to level the scores at half-time. After a good second half, the honours were even until an Ivan Shirkie goal made it 3-2 for Smokies and as hard as Gibralter tried, Smokies hung on for the win.
The Division Two play-off takes place on Thursday between Johnson Fold and Sams Bar at Breightmet Utd, Moss Park, 6.30pm.
In Division One, Egerton have been busy catching up with fixtures, and it has been something of a mixed week. They drew 5-5 with Ladybridge but were hammered 7-0 by Sporting Westhoughton.
