WAYNE O’Riley and John Googan scored two apiece as Cheers Bar kicked off the new Division One season with an impressive 5-3 win against Atherton Town.
Martinez, Rudd and Parkinson were on target for Town but the visitors, for whom Paul Costello was also on target, ran out deserved winners.
Elevation to the top flight did not faze Radcliffe Old Boys A who visited one of last season’s high-fliers, Salford Waggon, and won 1-0.
Last season’s Division Two champions, Pineapple FC, opened up in Division One with a 3-1 win at Walkden CC. Mark Slone and Mark Horridge put Pineapple ahead before Parker pulled a goal back for Walkden before the interval. But Horridge scored his second after the break to seal Pineapple’s victory.
Defending champions Daten FC made a flying start against Victoria and raced into a two-goal lead through Wheelie and Burley, but home side Victoria were unlucky not to be level by half time and had the better of the second half. Gary Luck pulled one back for Victoria, but Daten held on to win.
In Division Two, PF Bury raced into a three-goal lead at home to Old Boltonians thanks to a Martin Kodjer hat-trick but the visitors hit back in the second half with two goals from Simon Neill – one a penalty – and one each from Andy Beardsworth and Wayne Cartwright to win 4-3.
Henighans opened their account with a 2-1 win at Moorside Rangers with goals from Mike Peake and a John Done penalty.
Turton Bay Mare got the better of Bromley Cross in a 4-2 win, Dean Johnson, Graham Warton, Ste Williams and Wayne Jenkinson getting the goals. The visitors’ consolation came through an own goal and a Mo Rehman strike.
Division Three newcomers Crossguns kicked off with a resounding 4-1 win over Bolton Wyresdale. Barry Johnson put them ahead and Simon Darcy levelled for the Wyres before the interval. But as the home side stepped up a gear after the interval, Paul Hornby helped himself to a hat-trick.
In a game of missed chances, Gary Davenport scored the only goal to give Dobbies victory at Ainsworth B.
Alan Mitchell and Wes Gallagher scored two apiece for Bolton Lads and Girls Club but they had to settle for a point at Golborne Parkside, whose four goals were all scored by Stephan Hughs.
Radcliffe Old Boys B got the better of fellow newcomers Elton Liberals with goals from Ste Clark (two), Ste Godridge and Ivor Altdorf.
