OLD Boltonians got the better of Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division rivals Little Lever 3-2 in the Hospital Cup.

League leaders Old Bolts fell behind on seven minutes when a John Burke corner deflected in off a defender.

In an open game, it was level before half time when a specatacular backwards header from Rob Taylor from the edge of the box looped over the stranded Little Lever keeper.

Little Lever had the chance to regain the lead 10 minutes into the second half from the penalty spot, but Old Bolts keeper Andy Hodgeson kept the spot-kick out.

It was then the turn of Old Bolts to be frustrated on 58 minutes when they had a ‘goal’ chalked off for offside.

But four minutes later, Matt McClellan ran through the Little Lever defence to fire into the far corner to make it 2-1.

A penalty from Paul Wheatcroft made it 3-1 before a late consolation for Little Lever completed the scoring.

It was the first of the opening five games of the competition to be decided inside normal time.

On Tuesday, Tempest United host Bolton Wyresdale, while CMB entertain Ladybridge.

The following evening, Turton host Breightmet United.
