EAGLEY Football Club have appointed a new management team ahead of the new season.

Paul Marriott, who won an unprecedented treble in his last season as Eagley manager in 2013, has returned to the club as director of football.

The West Lancashire Premier Division club have appointed Alex Harvey as manager and long-time Eagley duo Phil Hutchinson and Steve McGee will run the second team.

The Dunscar club are the highest standard amateur football team in Bolton, playing in the seventh tier of the national non-league ladder.

After Marriott’s departure, they promoted Phil Roberts from second-team manager to take charge of the first team and then replaced him mid-season with ex-Cardiff and Wigan player Simon Howarth.

They finished fourth last season and Howarth has since left to take on a coaching role at League Two club Shrewsbury Town.

Marriott built the club impressively during his five years in charge, culminating in winning the League Cup, the Bolton Hospital Cup and the Lancashire Shield - the latter being the most prestigious cup in the county for amateur football teams – as well as finishing second in the league.

Highly respected in regional amateur football circles and widely admired for his success at Eagley, many observers are surprised he has not been offered the chance to manage at a higher level over the last year.

Eagley are hoping that will be their gain as Marriott is charged with overseeing football matters at Dunscar.

The first job is to recruit players for the new season.

They had their first training session on Saturday when players were thin on the ground.

They are inviting any players of appropriate standard to take part in their second training session at Leverhulme Park on Long Lane, Breightmet, on Tuesday night at 7pm.

Their first pre-season game is on Saturday at home to Radcliffe Borough when players who impress tomorrow night could be involved.
