HORWICH Victoria continued their climb away from the bottom of the Premier Division with a second successive victory.

Danny Holmes’ men hit back from conceding a fifth-minute goal to beat visiting North Walkden 3-1.

Dean Spencer made it 1-1 before half-time with a fine dribble and shot. Then Sean Jones and Myles McGrillen scored with a header apiece, both goals from Danny Warburton corners.

Castle Hill belied bottom position with one of their best performances of the season in a 4-2 home defeat to second-placed Tottington United.

With Jason Craig back in the secretary’s role after the club were docked all of their points for an administrative issue, Hill are confident their fortunes will soon change on and off the field.

A Chris Beresford header from a corner reduced the arrears to 2-1. But Tottington scored two more to go in 4-1 up at half-time. An inspired second half from Hill was rewarded with a fine solo goal from Mark Gordon.

Anthony Sivori was on target for second-bottom Little Lever in a 3-1 defeat at Old Mancunians.

Old Boltonians and Howe Bridge Mills reached the last 16 of the Lancashire FA Cup.

A first-half hat-trick by Chris Anderton and a goal apiece from Scott Fletcher and Alex Luby gave Bridge a 5-1 interval lead over Blackburn-based visitors Alexandra Hotel. The guests made it 5-4 but David Hogan sealed Mills’ passage with a goal five minutes from time.

Bridge secretary Vinny Monks completed a 90-minute sponsored silence on the sidelines in aid of fundraising for Atherton disabled five-year-old Charlie Townsend.

Old Bolts disposed of Division One pacesetters Tyldesley United 3-0.

Sean Rushton broke the deadlock from the spot after Rob Taylor was fouled. It was 2-0 before the break courtesy of Rushton after a sweet one-touch move — also involving Nick Holt, Taylor and Lee Worswick — which covered the length of the field. Tom Whitaker completed the scoring with a goal from the centre spot on 75 minutes.
