TURTON FC manager Neil Johnson believes the Thomasson Fold side are back where they belong’ after a 2-1 away win at Poulton secured promotion back to the top flight of the West Lancashire Football League.

Johnson said: “It was a deserved win and just reward for all our efforts this season.

“They have been tremendous and a pleasure to work with. It’s been a long five years but we are now back where we belong.”

Turton found themselves 1-0 down despite the best-efforts of Josh McGreavy saving a spot-kick, but the rebound was followed up by Poulton player to score after four minutes.

Then on 20 minutes Turton leading scorer Kieran Sisson missed a penalty but a deserved equaliser came on 33 minutes when a flowing move ended up at the feet of Ste Fitton and he hit a vicious dipping shot over the Poulton stopper.

With five minutes remaining, a Matt Eckersley free kick found its way to Jordan Lomax inside the Poulton penalty area.

His sublime touch and turn took him past his marker and he hit a shot with the outside of his right foot past the advancing keeper and in off the post.

Elsewhere in Division One, Tempest United had to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw with Mill Hill St Peters.

Gary Westhead’s side missed a few chances first half but could not break the deadlock.

Matty Carter scored straight after the interval and Gareth Gemmell made it 2-0 on the hour mark after good work from Gaz Barnes but St Peters hit back with two goals.

Meanwhile, Bolton County suffered their 19th defeat of the season going down 2-1 at Ambleside despite Tom Helsby putting them in front in the first half.

In Division Two, Ladybridge went down 2-0 to Milnthorpe.

CMB wrapped up a 2-1 victory against Kendal County.

Phil Roberts’ side found themselves 1-0 down at the break but battled back with a free-kick by Michael McGinlay and agoal by Matt Carr.
