NATHAN Monson hit a hat-trick as the Bolton Sunday League representative team made it through to the final of the Mid Lancs Inter-league Trophy last week.

The Morris Dancers player, who also scored in the quarter-final victory over Oldham, was joined on the scoresheet by his club-mates Mark Carter and Lee Fitzsimmons as the local lads set up a final date against Rochdale at Ashton Town FC on May 14.

It was an impressive semi-final triumph for the Bolton side against a Stockport team who won the trophy last season.

Now the team managed by Dean Walmsley, who is also boss at Division One leaders Queen Anne, will look to win silverware in Wigan.

Monson set the ball rolling with two first-half strikes for Bolton before Stockport halved the deficit going into half-time at Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park base last Wednesday.

But the holders could not get level after the break and Carter made it 3-1 before Monson completed his treble.

Fitzsimmons put the icing on the cake with a fifth to dump the favourites out.

League representative Stan McGowen was full of praise for the select side and believes trophy success can only enhance the reputation of the league which is sponsored by Bolton at Home.

McGowen said: "It is a fabulous achievement considering Stockport were the holders and favourites to go through.

"It is fantastic for the league and hopefully will help us grow.

"At present we have just two divisions and 20 teams whereas Stockport and finalists Rochdale have somewhere near 50.

"We want to grow the league to the same level and this success will help."

The league is inviting applications from teams to play in it next season.
