Turton were in seventh heaven after thrashing eight-man Tempest United in the West Lancashire League Premier Division.

United’s indiscipline proved costly as Matthew Carter, Shaun Dootson and David Edwards were all sent off before half-time.

Basement boys Turton ruthlessly took advantage of their numerical advantage as they ran out comfortable 7-0 winners.

Dave Hanlon (2), Matthew Leece (2), Matthew Ward, Dave Burrows and Danny Holroyd were the goalscorers and helped Neil Hart’s side, who have been deducted nine points for fielding an ineligible player, move to within five points of their closest rivals.

Stoneclough suffered a tough afternoon against leaders Charnock Richard.

The hosts briefly threatened when Phil Hill levelled matters but Charnock showed why they are top of the table as they cruised to a 3-1 victory.

Stoneclough will aim to return to winning ways tonight against Atherton LR in a repeat of last season’s Goldline Trophy final.

The two go head to head in the quarter-final with Stoneclough looking to avenge their Reebok defeat.

Eagley enjoyed a fantastic 3-0 victory at Coppull United.

Tom Morgan fired the visitors into the lead and second-half goals from Ben Wells and Danny Stott ensured Eagley continue heading up the table.

Saturday’s home game with Freckleton has been brought forward half an hour and will now kick off at 2.30pm.

Division Two’s bottom club Bolton County’s away clash at Ulverston was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
