West Lancashire League round-up

A VICTORY for Old Boltonians pulled them five points clear at the top of the Premier Division as their four closest rivals all lost.

The Bolton School old boys, who were driven on by the impressive David Owen in midfield, won 2-1 against a Chaddertonians team which began the day in fourth.

Striker Darren Dalton, who has been picked for the inter-league team, opened the scoring on 25 minutes when he latched onto a long ball from midfielder Sol Rostron and slotted home.

Chadertonians drew level just after half-time but Old Bolts’ relentless pressure paid off 15 minutes from time when defender James Kinsler headed in his fifth goal of the season straight from a corner.

Howe Bridge Mills remain second despite going down 5-3 at home to Rossendale Amateurs.

David Hogan gave Howe Bridge an early lead when he swept home following a swift counter attack.

Rossendale’s tactics of containing and catching Howe Bridge on the break paid off as they scored three goals before the break.

Howe Bridge pressure finally paid off when the visitors conceded a penalty five minutes from time which Hogan converted.

The match exploded into life during seven minutes of injury time when Rossendale restored their two-goal lead before Rick Truw headed home a free kick before Rossendale scored with the last kick game.

Chew Moor Brook missed the chance to go second when a much-changed side lost 2-1 at Rochdale St Clements.

Andy Warburton put the Bolton side ahead in spectacular style when he rifled a 30-yard free kick into the top corner just after half time.

Chew Moor’s makeshift defence finally cracked on 70 minutes and Rochdale won it with a penalty 10 minutes from time.

Little Lever Sports Club may be sixth, but with two and three games in hand on all the teams above them they are ideally placed to make a tilt for the title.

They sneaked a victory at Horwich RMI when, with only three minutes remaining, Andy Bingham sent over a cross from the left and his brother, Craig, headed in at the far post.

Radcliffe Town paid heavily for a sloppy opening half hour at home to Failsworth Dynamos.

The bottom team conceded four goals before tightening up considerably and scoring the only other goal of the game, an own goal in the last minute.

The First Division promotion race continues to be dominated by Horwich Victoria and Castle Hill who are on identical points from games played and seven points ahead of third-placed Thornleigh.

Vics beat Prairie United 2-0 and Castle Hill edged it 2-1 against Tyldesley United, Richard McIlveen and Mark Sloan scoring Hill’s goals.
