GARY Speed has what it takes to make a very good manager: knowledge, experience, intelligence and bags of common sense.
Those who dealt with him during his days with Wanderers could see he was destined for management once his extended playing career ended.
I just hope he gets the necessary luck needed to make a go of it in his first job at Sheffield United, where he has replaced Kevin Blackwell.
I’d hate to see such a good bloke consumed by a business which made Blades boss Blackwell the third high-profile departure in eight days, following Martin O’Neill at Villa and Steve Coppell at Bristol City – and the new season just a fortnight old.
