THE match of the day took place between at Little Lever SC who shared six goals with Howe Bridge Mills in the Premier League.

The Atherton side swept into a two-goal lead with SC still psychologically in the dressing room. David Hogan took only two minutes to open the scoring for the visitors before Peter Monks doubled their advantage on 25 minutes.

Little Lever, inspired by new captain Craig Bingham from centre midfield, fought their way back and his 30-yard free kick five minutes before the interval put the hosts back in with a shout.

Bingham’s brother Scott – playing as a loan striker – grabbed a deserved equaliser on the hour and when Neil Mathews put SC ahead with 10 minutes to go it looked like the home side would grab all three points.

But Hogan poked an equaliser home deep into six minutes of stoppage time.

Castle Hill celebrated their first ever game in the top flight with a 3-0 home win over Rochdale St Clements thanks to goals from Chris Hutcheson, Richard McIlveen and Rob Crank. Elswhere, Old Boltonians got their campaign off to a fine start with a 2-0 win with goals from Ben Lenders and Darren Dalton.

In Division One, Bolton Wyresdale were left to rue their lack of potency, drawing 1-1 at home to Old Blackburnians Reserves.

The visitors scored first, but Kris Lordy grabbed a deserved equaliser late on.

Horwich RMI were beaten 1-0 at the hands of Thornleigh as a result of a disputed goal scored in the 40th minute while visiting goalkeeper Richard Gee was injured.

RMI visit Little Lever SC reserves tonight (kick off 6.30pm) and will be looking to ignite their season.
