Gardner and Jussi could stay, but it's curtains for Campo, Stelios and Andranik

GARY MEGSON is hoping to persuade Wanderers' two longest serving players, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Ricardo Gardner, to stay at the Reebok.

The Bolton boss has opened negotiations with the two players, who will be out of contract and could leave the club on free transfers.

But Ivan Campo, Stelios and Andranik are now looking for new clubs after being told that they will not be offered new deals.

Wanderers' official retained and transfer list, which had been widely predicted, has now been lodged with the Premier League.

Now it remains to be seen whether they can persuade Jaaskelainen and Gardner to commit their futures to the club, but Megson is determined to do all in his power to get them to stay.

"Jussi and Ricardo have both been excellent servants and are still very much part of my future plans for this football club," he said, underlining his determination.

"Hopefully, we can get them secured on new deals as soon as possible."

Confirming the release of the senior trio of Campo, Stelios and Andranik, the manager said: "Ivan, Stelios and Andranik have all done well for Bolton Wanderers and I'd like to express my gratitude to them.

"It's time for them to move on and I wish them all he best."

Three reserve teamers - Mark Ellis, Johann Smith and Les Thompson - who have all had spells on loan with league clubs, have also been released as Megson paves the way for a major overhaul of his playing squad and backroom staff during the close season.

Promising youngster, James Sinclair, and veteran keeper, Ian Walker, have both been told they will feature in the squad as Wanderers go into an eighth successive season of Premiership football.

For Campo, Stelios and Andranik, however, it is the end of the Reebok road.

They had all hoped to stay on, but Megson believes it is time to make room for new faces.
