West Lancashire League: Eagley bow to champions
10:30am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Other Football
EAGLEY’S disappointing home form continued with a 2-1 defeat to Premier Division leaders Charnock Richard.
The Dunscar men looked to have earned themselves a point after Scott McNair equalised an early Charnock strike on the half hour.
But they conceded a second, decisive goal with 13 minutes to play to slump to their third defeat in their opening four home matches.
Phil Morley’s side remain in fourth place, however, thanks to their impressive start to the season away from home, where they have won four and drawn one of their five matches.
Tempest United will be dreaming of home matches to come after going down 4-2 at Longridge Town – their fourth defeat in six matches on their travels.
They were always in the game, however, with Alfie Akiotu equalising from the penalty spot midway through the first half to make it 1-1.
Despite conceding two more before the break, Ryan Moore put them back in it with a second on the stroke of half time to go in 3-2 down.
Tempest then missed chances to secure a point in the second half before they conceded a breakaway goal in the final kick of the match to leave them 12th in the table.
It was an equally bad week for local sides further down the leagues, with only CMB able to manage a point.
In Division One, Turton went down to a shock 3-0 defeat at Ambleside United while Bolton County lost 4-0 at leaders Hesketh Bank.
The three local sides in Division Two took on the top three in the league.
CMB kept a clean sheet to earn a creditable 0-0 draw at home to Askam United, who ended the day in second.
But Thomas Cheetham’s goal was not enough for Stoneclough in their 2-1 loss at third-placed GSK Ulverston Rangers while Ladybridge lost out to a solitary goal at home leaders Furness Cavaliers.
